Edition #15 | The Man They’ll Remember
Fatherhood has a way of changing what you notice. Things that once felt urgent start to lose their grip — and a different question surfaces. For a lot of us, it doesn’t come fully into focus until the second half, once the kids are grown and building lives of their own:
What kind of man will my children remember?
For most of my life, I didn’t have an answer. What I had instead was drift — busy days, good intentions, and a nagging sense that the man my family actually experienced wasn’t quite the man I meant to be.
What changed things wasn’t trying harder. It was realizing I needed a code — a clear set of principles to live and lead by, and to come back to when I fall short. Not to make me perfect. To give me something to return to.
That’s what this week’s blog is about: why a father needs a code, the three beliefs mine is built on, and something the second half makes clear — my kids are grown, but my job as their father isn’t over. How close we are from here is still being written.
One more thing worth saying: you don’t build this alone. The hardest season of my life taught me that strong men don’t stand alone — and it’s a big part of why Keep Winning Dads exists.
A father needs a code. And we will fall short. But the man who keeps coming back — who keeps choosing, keeps repairing, keeps showing up — that’s the man his children will remember.
Still learning this alongside you,
Scott
