Edition #13 | The Questions You Can’t Quite Shake
Many good men carry a question without ever saying it out loud. It tends to show up when everything looks right on paper — the job works, the family’s healthy, the bills are paid — and yet something underneath is missing. An inner voice that keeps asking: Is there something more I’m supposed to be doing?
I carried that question for years, and I spent most of them looking for the answer in the wrong place.
I thought purpose was out there—a bigger calling I had to find, a reinvention, or a dramatic change. What I eventually learned is that it doesn’t work that way. Purpose didn’t arrive for me in an aha moment. It arrived through the ordinary, humbling work of trying to become a better father. Over time I realized the work itself was becoming something worth sharing.
That’s what this week’s article is about: the question every father carries, and why the answer isn’t out there waiting to be found. It’s forming inside the work you’ve already begun.

If you’ve heard that inner voice asking what your life is meant for and how it will matter, I hope this week’s article helps. Purpose doesn’t ask you to burn down what you’ve built. It grows out of it. And for a lot of us, the deepest purpose was never separate from family in the first place.
So this week, don’t go looking for your purpose. Do the work in front of you, and pay attention to what it’s becoming.
Still learning this alongside you,
Scott
